Three young men worked to steal a woman’s purse on Lincoln Avenue Monday afternoon, Napa police said.

A 31-year-old woman was walking east along Lincoln when a male subject came up from behind and demanded she give him the purse, according to police.

The male subject grabbed the purse, struggling with the woman until the purse strap broke and it fell to the ground, police said. The male subject grabbed the purse and ran to Lincoln and Yajome Street, where he met up with another male subject. Together they climbed into a white Jeep Cherokee driven by a third male subject and the trio left the scene, according to Napa police.

A witness to the purse snatching picked up the woman and they chased the Jeep until losing sight of it near Pueblo and Carriage Place. They found the purse on Yajome, but the woman’s cash, checks and credit cards were missing, police said.

The suspects have not been caught, said Napa Police Sgt. Don Honey. The subject who approached the woman is described as Hispanic, 18-20 years old, 5-feet, 5 inches tall, 130 pounds, wearing a black baseball cap, brown T-shirt and black pants.
