Napa’s Independence Day Celebration may have been fun and games for most, but Ray-Ray the Chihuahua/terrier mix from the Napa County Animal Shelter had a job to do: Find a new family.
“He’s gotten some interest today already,” Rob Zerby said, a Napa Humane volunteer showing off Ray-Ray.
Behind him was Napa Humane’s mobile adoption unit — an RV full of animals — on hand to show off two dogs, six cats and three rabbits.
Nearby, Napa Firefighter Jerry Snowden let kids and their parents check out Napa’s Truck 1, easily identifiable with its American flag paint job.
“We led the parade,” Snowden said.
The event had a flash of a parade around 1 p.m., with a handful of vehicles.
Across the way six-and-a-half-year-old Andrew Oliva was busy conquering the rock climbing tower. He slapped a red buzzer at the top, letting out a siren sound. Back safely on the ground, Oliva said he’s an old hand at rock climbing towers, having conquered them at school fairs and Rockzilla.
Why must he climb?
To get to the top, of course.
“It makes a cool noise,” he said.
Several yards away, Aaron and Kathy Haynes’s pooches Lucy and Tanner were sitting tight inside their plastic wagon, watching a healthy crowd mingle among vendors selling everything from palm readings to beer.
“This is the first time we tried a wagon,” Aaron said, adding the shy Tanner was still warming up to the idea of being in public.

And I agree, poor festival this year. The stage for the bands couldnt be any smaller and no canopy for shade for the bands. Little to nothing for kids to do, and you could pratically count the none food vendors on one hand. "
