Don't put a dangerous man in the White House
By William Gregg
Much has been made about Sen. John McCain’s expertise in foreign policy and his ability to keep the country secure. It is my contention that his performance in the debate on Sept. 26 should cast serious doubts about his ability to play an effective role in international relations. He repeatedly stated that as president he would insure that our military would be able to march out of Iraq after obtaining a victory. I would like to have Sen. McCain describe what he means by victory.
His statement sounds very much like those made by some after the Vietnam War. Namely, that the military could have achieved victory if only they had been allowed. Does Sen. McCain want to try to accomplish in Iraq (a military victory) what we were unable to accomplish in Vietnam? If so, he may have to (as he stated earlier) keep troops there for a hundred years and turn Iraq into a prison camp.
At present the surge has lessened the incidents of violence. How long will those decreases in violence last if those who oppose our presence (a majority of Iraqis?) believed that we were planning a prolonged stay? What will happen when the surge is over and we begin to withdraw troops? President Bush declined to start the reduction until after the election.
The days of the super colonial power that could maintain order simply by sending gunboats and troops is over. The Russian experience in Afghanistan proved that. It is time for us to truly elect a president in the image of Teddy Roosevelt: “Speak softly and carry a big stick.” In the Sept. 26 debate Sen. Obama stated that a president should be willing to use the country’s military, but only when the expending of the lives of American troops was absolutely necessary for the security of the country and the safety of her citizens.
Sen. Obama explained that as president he would have the right (and some feel the duty) to explore the channels of diplomacy whenever there was a chance that the country’s aims and security could be achieved without sending soldiers into harm’s way. In response, Sen. McCain repeatedly misinterpreted Sen. Obama’s statements by saying that it was naïve of Sen. Obama to sit down face-to-face with our enemy. Was Sen. McCain being deliberately obtuse or does he really believe that trying to negotiate instead of taking military action is not an option he would choose if he were president? Either way, he would be a dangerous man to be in charge of maintaining our country’s safety and having his finger on “the button.”
Mothers and fathers, please think about my point of view before you cast your vote for the next commander in chief.

Vietnam heroics aside, I think McCain is a shallow man. His choice for VP clearly underscores that. He could have made far better choices and had a real shot at the presidency. His lousy jokes and quick temper may impress his staff but not most of America.
And for all the delusions about being a maverick, he is nothing of the kind. A look at his overall voting record clearly shows him to be a mainstream Republican. No, I think Mr. Gregg is spot on.

Do you care about that fact...it's on the record if you want to check. McCain constantly refuted the strategy that Bush was pursuing. He called for the surge and change in straegy. The surge and strategy promoted by McCain has proven a great success.
Your denial of any possible victory in Iraq makes it clear that you are not a student of history. "Victory" over the Axis powers in WWII took years to achieve and the aftermath of the actual fighting was very challenging indeed. The cultures of Imperial Japan and Nazi Germany were as fanatical and destructive as anything the Islamic Terrorists of the Middle East could ever imagine. Yet, they were defeated and today the nation's of Japan and Germany are prosperous members of the freedom-loving community of nations throughout the world. Come on, William, learn about that which you speak. "

ruff - wrong again. It was Abe Lincoln who was the first president to skirt the Constitution, and later on it was FDR who ignored the Constitution and greased the skids we are now sliding down into the morass of socialism.
We have so much more reason to fear for our country with Obama in the White House. He has so many ties to radical socialists in his background that he is now playing his own game of Whack-A-Mole to try to hide them. Of course, instead of dealing with questions when they come up he tries to call 'smear' and belittle the questioner. That's not going to work much longer as the questions pile up. And it's not a smear if it is the truth.
Fortunately more questions are coming to light. I have contacts in Chicago who are uncovering incontrovertable evidence that Obama was a member of the New Party, another radical socialist group. Obama's ties to ACORN are also beginning to get the attention they deserve.
Some of these commentaries and posts are so dripping with hate I wonder how you people sleep at night with so much acid buildup in your bodies. I don't hate Obama, but because he is not telling us the truth about his past, and the fact that he is a socialist make him the wrong choice to become the leader of our country. "

Why is Osama Bin Laden important? I am not quite sure where to begin…He is quite experienced in the art of terror. He has many connections to other terrorists, knows where the money is, how to distribute it, etc.
But in the larger scheme of things he really isn’t that important , as there are many more just like him who will step up into his position should something happen to him. It may cause the movement to flounder for a bit, but it will not end Islamic fascism.
So, I am not sure where you are heading with this. Radical Islam is a movement that started in the early 1900’s and has continued to gain momentum for many reasons. The answer to dismantling it are many faceted. I would not hazard to know all the answers. But I do know we cannot allow it to continue. We need to realize that Islamo Fascism has no intention of dealing honestly with us. We also need to address the economic issues of the average Muslim on the street. This is very difficult to do in Muslim countries controlled by wealthy ruling families that all have a stake in seeing terrorism continue. Encouraging democratic governments, such as Israel, Iraq, etc, in the middle east is a start. Helping people in countries not over run by Muslim rule with economic opportunities is a start. This will prevent Radical Muslims gaining a foothold.

From the NY Times article (that I'm assuming you haven't read): Mr. Obama’s friends said that history was utterly irrelevant to judging the candidate, because Mr. Ayers was never a significant influence on him. Even some conservatives who know Mr. Obama said that if he was drawn to Ayers-style radicalism, he hid it well. Mr. Tom Hayden, 68, said he has known Mr. Ayers for 45 years and was on the other side of the split in the radical antiwar movement that led Mr. Ayers and others to form the Weathermen. But Mr. Hayden said he saw attempts to link Mr. Obama with bombings and radicalism as “typical campaign shenanigans.”
“If Barack Obama says he’s willing to talk to foreign leaders without preconditions,” Mr. Hayden said, “I can imagine he’d be willing to talk to Bill Ayers about schools. But I think that’s about as far as their relationship goes.” "

So, how about it PPF. Why not stick to the issues our country is facing right now instead of insisting on rolling around in mud. I bet you guys stay up at night thinking up someof your "Reasonable questions".
Let's have McCain answer to his Keating 5 involvement especially since it is more relevant to what is going on in our economy today. Also, let's ask him about Gordon Liddy and his relationship with this terrorist. Let's also ask him about his relationship to Washington Lobbyists that have basically guided his every move.
Let's ask Palin why she is not cooperating with the investigation of her that is going on in Alaska. What is she hiding? Ohhhh, I see. Those aren't "Reasonable questions". "

Sarah Palin unlawfully abused her power as governor by trying to have her former brother-in-law fired as a state trooper, the chief investigator of an Alaska legislative panel concluded Friday. He also calls for a two year plan to offer a $3,000 tax credit to businesses for each additional full-time job they can create/fill.
McCain wants tax breaks for corporations and the upper-class. His economic plan and tactics aim to help large companies such as, oil companies, banks, military hardware manufacturers. He also aims to give tax breaks to the wealthiest 5% of Americans.
These are the facts. Please, go to each candidates website and check the information yourself. Do not allow this newspaper, or any other media source to confuse or sway your understanding of these policies, before you get them directly from the horses mouth. Or in this case the elephant and the donkey.
Personally, I feel McCain is not necessarily dangerous, I mean if we survived Bush..., but I do feel his economic policies are very inline with Bush's and are harmful to the economy. History has shown in this country that policies which promote jobs and tax breaks for the lower and middle class, like the ones Obama has purposed, result in economic growth.
The choice between the two should be clear. "

Only 5% of the people in America make over $250,000 a year. By any account or report you read, the rich 5% in this country have gotton richer under the Bush administration, while the other 95% of people have gotten relatively poorer. Factoring inflation and such, it is unfair to say that they have actually gotten poorer. A better statement is that the margin between the rich and the poor has grown drastically under Bush, and the economic growth of the country, particularly in the middle and lower class has suffered.
Do I beleive people who make over $250,000 should pay more than somebody who makes $30,000 a year? YES. This country is supposed to help support the under-dog, the guy, girl, or family that are down on their luck.
I don't have anything against rich people. I feel that in these times, a fraction of their money, which otherwise would be spent on buying a new car, or a new house, should be distributed back into the system that alowed them to live such wonderful lives. It's called giving back. They have a roof over their head, and food in their's and their children's stomachs. There needs are met, and if they are too greedy to care for those who are less fortunate then they need to be forced to give a little of their pile to the vast, overwhelming majority.
At the end of the day remember, all this money and status won't mean anything if the 95% of us who aren't rich decide to take, instead of ask. It's a small price to pay for living in the "best country in the world", right? "

Excuse me while I pick myself up from the floor....
Peaceful religion?...educated people know this?
I fairly well educated, especially in the area if Islamic Terrorism, mainstrem Islam, and Reform Islam...at least for an American woman. This has been an ares of interest for me for over 25 years. So I am EDUCATED in this area, and I know just the opposite. The Muslim religion is peaceful, only when and if you SUBMIT to it. SUBMIT is the key word here. If you were EDUCATED on this subject you would know what is commonly preached by Imans in the Muslim churches.... SUBMISSION. Once Muslim, always Muslim. There is no leaving of the church. There is no acceptance of any law that goes against Allahs teachings. This means Gays are killed, anyone leaving the church is killed, adultry punished by death..etc.
Obama says he is Christian. The Muslim world would not agree with this. He is very lucky to be an American. If he lived in a Muslim country he would have committed apostasy by claiming to be Christian, and would be under a death sentence for not submitting to Islam. He will most likely still be accused of apostasy from the Muslim world...but they will only be able to kill him by a terrorist act, only because he was lucky enough to be born in the U.S.
The holy war Palin was reffering to was the one being fought AGAINST us by Islam. If the Idea of being overcome by Islam does not scare you, then perhaps you are the one that needs more education. "

Teacher, I said I was educated on this subject, and to hold that view would not be very educated of me, now. would it?
I really love it when people attribute things to me that are untrue.
I clearly have said so many times that your head should be spinning, if you were comprehending my words. Let me put it as simply as I can. There is Radical Islam, mainstream Islam, and reform Islam. Radical Islam are the bad guys attacking us, Mainstram Islam is very traditional, and adheres pretty fundamentally to the teachings of the Koran. Hence they do little to stop the spread of Radical Islam, since they hold many of the same views. And you are correct, the average Muslim on the street probably does not give our demestic polocies much thought, but the Imans are aware, and they do not approve of us. The only part of Islam taking an active role in promoting peace, and acceptance is Reform Islam. They are a very small faction.
Now since I have said this in oh so many ways, how in the world do you get what you said from that?
To make the statement, as someone earlier said, that Islam is a religion of peace shows very little insight into how they achieve that "PEACE".
It will certainly give me no pleasure in the future to say "I told you so" to all of the enlightened ones who think thay understand Islam, when they really haven't a clue. "

rage, where is it written that the rich are obligated to help support the poor? Americans are only promised liberty and the pursuit of happiness...not handouts! Why should the rich be required to pay higher taxes than anyone else? I'm not rich but I don't like our current tax system or Obama's. They need to work on an even tax for everyone that removes loopholes for the rich. "

But if all this country can offer me in the way of real choice is either let the rich get richer, or give a hand to the poor, I am siding with the poor. It's those less fortunate who deserve help and breaks, not the other way around.
But in the end you are right, they need to work on something that is better and even.
It's very obvious that Obama is trying to change things, there wouldn't be as much fear surrounding him and those who support him if this weren't true. "

I disagree with him about McCain being a dangerous man in the white house. Obama does not have as much experience as McCain therefore I feel better about casting a vote for McCain. Obama wants change and so do I. Change from the lameduck policies of Bush is something I look forward to with hope. My hope for change is with McCain. "

There are plenty of the poor just trying to do that, getting an education, as education costs rise; but in the job finding category, over 750,000 have been lost so far this year and we still have 2.5 months to go... you know I am happy that you have never had to deal with that situation, RC, but your response shows the lack of compassion that marks way too many of the posters here.... remember there may come a time you need that helping hand and it has been my experience that the poor are more willing to help one another than the rich seem to be.... I do believe they feel as Rush Limbaugh claimed the endorsement was based on race despite the long and well reasoned explanation given for the endorsement.
"I guess you just cant do anything nice for those (Insert word of choice here) and expect em to be grateful!" Is something I'd overheard this afternoon. Of course I jumped in and addressed that statement and was promptly ignored as If I wasn't there.
Not sure if it was due to being embarrassed that I'd overheard the statement of they simply wouldn't speak to me. ~grins was fun to see the look on her face though! "
