A St. Helena woman reported to police that on Wednesday morning when she returned home after taking her son to school, she found a man inside her house, St. Helena Police Cpl. Ramon Jovel said.

“The woman knows the man, but he is not a friend,” Jovel said.
The man, identified by the woman as Donnie Lee Arnold, left the house.

A short time later, she noticed a jar of coins on her bed, prompting her to search her house.
She discovered some of her jewelry was missing and notified police, Jovel said.

On Thursday morning police received a report of man sleeping in a car. St. Helena police responded and identified the man as Arnold, Jovel said.
“He admitted to taking the jewelry, which we found in the car,” he said.

Arnold, 45,  was arrested on suspicion of burglary.

Jovel said a further search of Arnold’s car turned up stolen mail, drugs and drug paraphernalia. Those charges are pending.
