Justin-Siena High School will play in its fifth CIF North Coast Section championship football game in nine years Friday when the Braves face Salesian-Richmond at 7 p.m. at Alhambra-Martinez.

There was a point this season when Justin-Siena’s football team began to question itself.

The Napa Christian boys basketball team opened its season on a winning note Tuesday by defeating Santa Rosa Christian, 33-17.

Jordan Price (15 points, nine rebounds, five steals), Kelsey Zeller (14 points, eight rebounds), Sierra Young (14 points), Rickey Patterson (six steals, four assists), and Megan Decius (three assists) led the Crushers in Tuesday’s nonleague game.

CUPERTINO — Taking its lumps from a more experienced opponent and taking notes, too, the Napa High volleyball team’s season ended Tuesday night in the Northern California Div. I championship match.

Janelle Travis had 14 points, six rebounds and four assists in the Braves’ nonleague loss Tuesday night to Ursuline-Santa Rosa.

A run of 17 unanswered points to start the game set the tone and the Crushers never looked back in their season opener Tuesday night.

Ashley Ford led the Braves with 16 points, 10 rebounds and four steals in Tuesday’s nonleague game in Clark Gym. Lacey Orona added six points. Justin-Siena went on an 11-3 second-quarter run to go into halftime down 19-13. The Braves could only manage three points in the fourth quarter.

Kailee Simmons (eight points), Sarah Murdock (six points), Danika Schmid (10 rebounds) and Isabel Vito led the way in Tuesday’s season-opening game for Vintage, which had 23 steals.

The 22nd annual Wine Valley Classic Basketball Tournament for JV girls starts today at Vintage and continues Friday and Saturday.

It goes into the books as a nonleague win for the Vintage High School boys basketball team, but Scott Thom wasn’t exactly jumping for joy afterward.

Jessica Birney led Napa with four points and four steals. Holly Fuchs had four points and three steals.
