Two women were arrested in St. Helena Thursday on suspicion of drug possession after police stopped their car at a downtown intersection, police said Friday.

At around 11:30 p.m. Thursday, police stopped the silver Honda Accord at the corner of Pope and Main streets after an officer suspected the driver was under the influence, St. Helena Police Sgt. William Imboden said Friday. The car sat at the intersection when the light turned green and when it finally did move, the driver made a really wide left turn on Main Street, police said.
The driver, Serena Gomez, 24, of South San Francisco, and her passenger, Nicole Rae Merritt, 22, of Antioch were arrested on suspicion of possessing a syringe filled with methamphetamine. Gomez was also booked on suspicion of driving under the influence while Merritt-Armas is suspected of having burglary tools, according to police.

Gomez and Merritt were booked at Napa County Jail.

" Doesn't sound like much of a drug bust compared to what the DEA has recovered from the cartel. "

" There was a burglary on Tuesday, and two on Thursday in St. Helena. The passenger is suspected of having burglary tools in her possession. Can't say if there's a connection here, but still, good job, Sgt. Imboden for getting these people off of the street. "
