You won’t find work by Aaron Haynes featured in any Napa art gallery. But it can be seen all over town — on storefront windows.

The owner of Aaron’s Signs & Windows, Haynes makes all kinds of signs but is probably best known for the holiday window scenes he paints on local businesses each November and December.
Haynes said as he was growing up, he was always drawing, especially at school. “I drew on my desk, I drew on my homework and I drew on my locker,” he said with a laugh.

Which three people would you most like to have dinner with?
My late grandparents, who were very influential in my life.

My late step-son, Ricky Garnero, a very special young man.
What was your first job?

I grew up on a ranch outside of Redding, hauling hay, changing sprinkler pipes and herding livestock. My first job outside the ranch was as a crockery/silverware technician (dishwasher) in a local coffee shop in Anderson.

How did you get into this business?

I’ve always had a passion for all types of artwork. My brothers built race cars and I lettered them when I was a teenager. I was involved in 4-H raising livestock. In 4-H, you always needed signs, posters and labels.

Whom do you most admire in the business world?

My parents and grandparents taught me a strong work ethic. I do draw inspiration from two people from the Bible: Job, who faced terrible hardships and never lost his faith or focus. And King Solomon, who asked God for wisdom above all things. He was a well-loved and respected leader.

How many holiday windows do you do a year and which are your favorites?

I do about 50. I start in mid-November and by about Dec. 10 or 12 I’m done.

Butter Cream Bakery is one of my favorites because they have a lot of windows and they pretty much say, “Go for it.”

What is your favorite charity?

Anything to do with youth groups — 4-H, scouts, youth/high school sports.

What kind of paint do you use on the windows?

Acrylic house paint and high quality Tempra paint. The paint is removed with soapy water and a razor blade.

What was your childhood ambition?

At one time, I wanted to be a magician. But my true loves have always been cooking, art and woodworking.

If you could be anywhere right now, where would you be?

Serving alongside my son, Tyler, who is in the Navy aboard the USS Eisenhower. He is currently deployed to the Middle East. I am so proud of him and would give anything to serve with him.

What other business person(s) would you like to see featured in “10 Questions?”

Hal Dellwardt of Hal Dellwardt’s Full Service Window Cleaning.

Rodney Gajdos of Golden Gate Roofing.
