Just hours after Napa County Sheriff’s investigators displayed an artist’s facial reconstruction of a woman whose bones were found in a remote area of Lake Berryessa on Mother’s Day, the victim’s daughter contacted investigators and solved the mystery.

At about 8 p.m. on June 23, the daughter of the victim called the Napa law enforcement agency and said she recognized from the TV news the woman in the facial reconstruction as her mother, Johnethel McGehee, 47, of Oakland.
The victim, who also has gone by the name of Jasmine McGehee and Jasmine Williams and has ties to San Francisco, San Leandro and other Bay Area cities, has no known ties to Napa County.

Napa County Sheriff’s Det. Chris Carlisle, the lead investigator on the case, said dental records were obtained and that they confirmed the identity of the woman.
The daughter wished to not be identified, Carlisle said.

“The daughter has been very cooperative,” Carlisle said, adding that she also lives in Oakland.
“We are pursuing a bunch of leads. The daughter has been very involved in giving us information regarding her mom and places where we can look. It’s mostly background. We are looking all over the Bay Area, but mostly in the East Bay,” Carlisle said. “A case like this is going to take some ground work.”

The detective would not comment on what McGehee did for a living or if she had a criminal record.

Carlisle said on Wednesday afternoon they do not have a suspect.

The facial reconstruction, done by Marin County forensic artist Gloria Nusse, was very similar to photos of McGehee.

At around 10 a.m. on Mother’s Day, human skeletal remains were discovered by Napa County Sheriff’s deputy Mike Bartlett, who was patrolling in rural Napa County along Highway 128 near Monticello Dam.

Bartlett had pulled off the road to investigate a nearby vehicle when he found the remains. The vehicle had nothing to do with the case.

Investigators are not saying if McGehee was killed at the scene where her remains was discovered.

Carlisle said the case is still be handled as a homicide, but declined to give details because doing so may hinder the investigation.

Anyone with information regarding McGehee, when she was last seen or talked to is asked to call Carlisle at 253-6030.  Witnesses may remain anonymous. The public can also call the sheriff tip line at 877-426-4847 or e-mail to sherifftipline@co.napa.ca.us.

" Do we know the cause of death? Let me guess "you do not suspect foul play" "

" I too am amazed at the startling resemblance! What an extraordinary job the artist did in capturing the victim, Johnethel McGehee. It's almost as if the victim were crying out for justice as this artist worked, rendering her humanity to life.

I sure hope this helps in the capture of the perpetrator. I know that it has a least brought some answers for the family regarding Ms. McGehee's disappearance.

It really brings to light how our society must never give up on preventing violence and by upholding justice for victims.

God bless the family in their grief. Thanks to the artist and the law enforcement officers who worked on this case. may Ms. McGehee rest in peace. "

" This is another testimony to the training and professionalism our local law enforcement personnel have been provided. It also shows that when the elements of time, thoroughness and proper resources are allowed what can be accomplished successfully. This paved the road to successfully identifying the female victim. The entire circumstance including the chance sighting initially by a Deputy is remarkable. "

" WOW! I know her! I have not seen her in years!! I know her sister, niece, mother and brothers. Her niece and I went to catholic school together. She was a really good person and very beautiful!! I know her family truly misses her.

Thank you to the artists that did an OUTSTANDING job.

I wish her children and family the best. Peace and Love, Trevira "
