Responding to a Wednesday night prowler call, Napa police arrested a 22-year-old man who allegedly had taken a garage door opener from a resident’s vehicle.

Police said they found Christopher Tello of Napa in a driveway on the 2300 block of Carriage Place. The arrest occurred just before midnight.
In addition to the garage door opener, Tello was in possession of stolen property from another person’s vehicle, police said.

Tello was booked at the jail for investigation of burglary and possession of stolen property.

" Well duh, samaker. You just match up the serial number on the opener with the serial number on the opening mechanism. "

" Good job getting the little creep off the streets! But where was his look-out? RUNNING?
There are way too many people walking around checking for unlocked doors and ripping people off. One more thief right where he belongs! "

" Psst, Tello -- next time, take the car, not the garage door opener! "

" it was probably his own house and he didn't even realize he was breaking into his own house... I am surprised he didn't pull a knife on the police like the gangster in St. Helena a couple of weeks ago... hahaha, a knife... oops, i forgot police carried these things called guns!!! "

" NapaNana -

Well, maybe if people here wisened up a bit - and started doing common-sense things like locking doors - there would be less people lurking around...

Don't get me wrong: theft is theft, and I hope that every thief gets caught. But why make it so easy for them in the first place? It just attracts more thieves.

In sum: lock your doors. Don't leave valuables in plain sight. Thieves are opportunistic. The best way to prevent theft is to prevent the opportunity.

Glad the kid got caught. "
