While four Lake Berryessa resorts remain closed and the process of awarding the contracts drags along, the  Bureau of Reclamation still plans to have all resorts open by next summer, according to Mike Finnegan, area manager for the federal agency.

Last year, the bureau selected three concessionaires to run the lake’s seven resorts, only to discover a technical flaw earlier this year in the way the bureau had drafted the contracts.
The contracts for six resorts — Rancho Monticello, Steele Park, Spanish Flat, Berryessa Marina, Putah Creek and Markley Cove resorts — went back out to bid earlier this year.

The contract for Pleasure Cove was OK’d in December. On Thursday, Finnegan said the bureau only needs to make a modest change yo the Pleasure Cove contract, awarded to Forever Resorts of Scottsdale, Ariz.
The original deadline for potential concessionaires to submit bids for the other resorts was Aug. 14, but Finnegan said Thursday the Bureau has extended the deadline to Sept. 30.

In the meantime, Markley Cove on Highway 128, Pleasure Cove on Wragg Canyon Road, and Steele Park on Steele Canyon Road remain open under temporary agreements with the bureau. Steele Park Resort, which only offers a boat launch and RV camping this summer, is scheduled to close in October.

" And then they'll extend it again.... and again.... and again.... and then they will need more time to hammer out a contract, and then we'll have another year of limited use of the lake.
Govt efficiency. "

" It just keeps getting worse.....now the north end of Oakshore from the entrance gate is only open to "campers". The south side is crowded with large groups and boats.....not a safe place for swimmers. "

Ok, lets get real. Meet Mike Finnegan the mouthpiece of the BOR. he continues to to display just how "out of touch" his office is at meeting deadlines and moving forward with rehabilitating the resorts. They have lost all credibility. Don't these people have any pride in doing their jobs? We are a struggling community here at the Lake dependent on access to the Lake for our businesses, while Diane Dillon and Mike Thompson continue to ignore their constituents and turn their back on the devastation these continuous delays have caused us taxpayers , homeowners and businesses to say nothing of the thousands of visitors.
lets face the facts. We pay their salaries and it is past time to hold them responsible to do their jobs . They started this "seamless transition" as the BOR put it June of 2006 it is 2009 with no end in sight. It is disgusting and anti-American. "

" Alright winelink!!! You hit the nail right on the head. Thompson and Dillon, are you listening? Don't you care at all about the people who have voted you into office? Turning your backs on the devastation in your home area seems to be a pattern for you both. "

" I love it the way it is..... Not a lot of people on the water. I get to fish without jet skis going by me, and wake board boats causing big ol waves 20 yrds. away from me. The biggest problem with the lake is not enough free launch ramps. Having only one free launch ramp on such a big lake is crazy. Just go to the lake with a couple of lawn chairs and watch the idiots launch their boats or PWC. That is why I get there at 4:30am, and leave before noon. People don't know how to back up a trailer and get out of the way for others. "

" I have family that lives up in the Highlands by Steele Park and because of all the new rules they won't even let the kids go down and swim at the resort during the summer! My mom used to go down and get a cup of coffee and a Napa Register every morning at the restaurant by the lake and now it's completely gone. The BOR told them to tear everything down and be out of there, then they told them they could stay awhile longer, but it was too late to save the structures. The locals that have kept these businesses going for years are just getting ignored and mistreated and the communities that counted on them are going to fall apart as their cost of living goes up. I understand trying to protect the environment, but let's not make Lake Berryessa something that it's not. It was a lake made for man by man. "

" The Bureau of Reclamation has purposely misled the hundreds of thousands of people that used the lake for many years for family recreation and yes parties at the bridges. Hundreds of jobs lost hundreds of millions of dollars of vacation homes & trailers destroyed along with several millions of dollars in attorney & court costs and for what.

Some of the rhetoric to date are “a vacation destination”, “seamless transition, we’re dotting the i’s and crossing the tees on the contracts and expect a concessionaire soon, contracts were deemed illegal”.

The change that would suit Lake Berryessa the most is the resignation of Congressman Thompson, Messer’s Finnegan, Michney, Lucero and Ms. Dillon. One other name comes to mind that sign the ill found Record of Decision and that was the former BOR Regional Director Mr. Kirk Rodgers. Mr. Rodgers was kind enough to retire.

To the NVR, I would ask you to please take the BOR blinders off and ask the in depth questions to the BOR’s management and hold them accountable. Government agencies with management that are rudderless ship are what are destroying this great country one day at a time.

The Bureau of Reclamation states they are cleaning up however they have also provided information that they do not have approved demolition plans, 404 permits, WDID numbers, construction plans or permits. The BOR ignores the state requirements for the proper testing, containment and abatement of ACM’s (Asbestos Construction Materials). "
