An early morning crash Tuesday ended with the arrest of a Napa man after police say he drove into a ditch on Dry Creek Road and broke both of his ankles. A passenger in the car with 24-year-old Antonio Gonzalez suffered minor injuries after Gonzalez, 24, failed to turn safely onto Dry Creek Road from Trower Avenue, according to the Napa Police Department.

The crash occurred around 1:30 a.m. Tuesday and Gonzalez — who police say displayed “signs of being under the influence of alcohol” — was rushed by Piner’s ambulance to Queen of the Valley Medical Center for treatment of his injuries.
Police say he will be charged with driving under the influence.

" This was a much worse accident then what the Register is reporting! The car at full spped was LAUNCHED when he hit the ditch at the end of Trower and Dry Creek. The car was AIR BORN about 100 yards into Alston Park. The first Fire engines were searching along the ditches up and down Dry Creek looking for the car, couldn't find it....until in the dark distance they heard someone yelling for help. The car was DEMOLISHED and unrecognizable. The entire front of the car was gone, hence the drivers both ankles being broke. It was a HORRIBLE site. I feel bad for the driver, but not to bad considering they were drinking and driving. But they are BOTH lucky to walk away from this car. It's to bad the REgister didn't get the pictures of this accident. Would be a good visual lesson to young people out there drinking and driving. "

" You feel bad for the driver? He brought his injuries upon himself! I never feel an ounce of sympathy for someone who drinks and drives and then hurts themselves. I might feel a little bad for the passenger, but they probably knew their chauffeur was drunk. "

" Sunday night at 11:30 PM the same type of accident happened on Orchard Ave. & Dry creek rd.. We heard the car speeding out of the "S" turn on Orchard and full throttle it till we heard the crash soon after as he hit the end of the street with the left or right option, he chose to go straight thru someones entry gate. I believe the driver ran after the crash, as helicopters were buzzing for sometime after, and the ambulance came and left within minutes. "

" Tazz - yes I was there too... I beat the first fire engine there, and I called the accident in when I heard it. Its a shame this story didn't get properly published. Napan's need to SEE the affects and learn from it. Besides, it was an amazing scene, having the car get air-born and out in the middle of the field. These guys are Lucky, very foolish, but lucky. Hopefully this will change their lives in a positive way. "

" I know the guys that towed that vehicle and I am taking the teenagers to see it.
If the Register refuses to scare the crud outta potential drunk idiots......at least our group of teens will see it first hand.
I have taken a bunch of them down there before. I love to freak out teenage boys......they need it!
Some of them have no idea just how much damage can be done at 35.......so we show them that they are NOT driving armored cars.......Kinda like a scared strait field trip. And they have seen some really bad stuff........and it seems to be working. "

" sunshine- why would there be a conspiracy? Driving drunk and crashing and then being arrested isn't a conspiracy! That fool could have come through the fence and landed on a HOUSE!

Nana- Good for you! Keep up the good work. "

" Antonio Gonzales is my Husband. He is also a well respected man of Napa, who won father of the year. He is a warm hearted individual, who sacrificed his own life to care for his 3 brothers, when their mother passed away in December 07. There was an article published in the Napa Register called “One In A Million”. I suggest you all read it before, you go judging a book by its cover. He had a few beers and went to go bowling and play pool that night. He lives a very stressful life, and went to go out for the night, which he rarely even ever does. He’s human and makes mistakes, just like you.
He laughs, he loves, he hopes, he tries, he hurts, he needs, he fears, he cries. And I know you do the same things too, so you're really not that different, you and him. "

" SMILE09 u couldnt have said it any better! Antonio is my cousin and we have grown up our entire life together! It hasnt always been easy for him, actually i could say that theres been many more harder times in his life than the fun easy ones! Although he knows that i am dissapointed in the actions that he decided to take that night, I still am very proud of the resposibilities that he has taken over the past few years!

Although i do know that he could have harmed someone other than himself, and that would have been horrible, i know that he is very much aware of the bad mistake that he did! Im sure that he will never do it again, and as that is not justifiable i know our entire family learned the lesson! "

" Tony has always done everything "by the book". He lovingly took on the task of raising his brothers after his mother's untimely death in 2007, attending all school and sport functions. His later teen years and all adult years he has cared for and helped
handicapped boys, who all love him. He made a serious mistake in judgement when he got behind the wheel when leaving his home to get some fast food that night, and ending up being airlifted to a UC hospital with 2 mangled legs and feet, broken ankles, still facing surgery to save one foot, and months in a wheel chair and physical therapy. Then financial disaster with medical and legal bills. He is paying dearly for his poor judgement and has learned his lesson.
Let's give him a break! "
