A fire destroyed an Angwin home on the 400 block of Newton Way Monday morning.

The fire began in the garage of a home at 470 Newton Way in Angwin at 10:20 a.m. Flames spread throughout the home, destroying a vehicle parked in its garage. It also damaged two nearby residences and another vehicle parked outside. Crews from CalFire, Calistoga Fire and Napa County Fire departments responded to the blaze.
Three people who were inside the home at the time that the fire broke out made it outside before crews arrived, CalFire said. One of the people who evacuated the home was treated for smoke inhalation at a nearby hospital. Three family pets perished in the fire, and a fourth animal is missing.

No other injuries were reported. Flames caused an estimated $250,000 worth of damage to the home. The amount of damage caused by flames to the adjacent homes was not available at press time. Investigators from the Napa County Fire Marshal’s Office and CalFire said the fire was accidental, but that they believe it was started by a person.

" Thank you so very much to the fire department for being quick to the scene. Also to the neighbors and friends who came together to help when the fire started. My heart goes out to the family who lost their house and pets. "
