Before murder arrest, Uribe had many clashes with the law

The man accused of murdering Calistoga resident Octavio Luis Carrillo has a lengthy criminal past tinged with moments of violence, according to Napa County Superior Court records.

Rodolfo Uribe, 23, of Napa, awaits a Sept. 9 hearing during which a judge is expected to decide if enough evidence exists to try Uribe in the June 29 shooting death of Carrillo. Uribe is also accused of forcing his ex-girlfriend, who was dating Carrillo, to have sex with Uribe after the shooting, resulting in charges of felony kidnapping, domestic violence and forcible rape.
It was one of a handful of murders in Calistoga’s 124-year history.

Over the last five years, Uribe has accumulated a string of convictions resulting in numerous short stints in Napa County jail and on probation. But he has never been sentenced to state prison.
When Uribe was arrested in the Southern California city of Compton 10 days after the Carrillo shooting, he was on probation for a 2007 domestic violence conviction. According to court records, Uribe and the same  woman were involved in an argument on May 27, 2007, and Uribe placed her in a headlock, pulled her hair and grabbed her wrists.

He was placed on formal probation, which required him to meet with a probation officer on a regular basis, but later was granted summary probation, which required him to follow the terms of probation without having to meet with the officer.
The 2007 incident marked the fifth time that Uribe had been convicted of a crime or a probation violation in Napa County. Other arrests had resulted in dropped charges.

Prosecutors declined to discuss Uribe’s criminal history, saying it would be inappropriate to address it in the press with a trial pending.

But the record shows that Uribe was affiliated with the Norteño gang and began running into publicly documented trouble shortly after turning 18. Juvenile justice records, documenting incidents before the accused turns 18, are not available to the public.

While Uribe’s record shows a history of domestic violence and gang-related scuffles, the allegations he faces today stand out  because of the brutality of the alleged crimes.

‘Watch yourself’

According to the criminal complaint filed by prosecutors, early on the morning of Monday, June 29, Calistoga police followed up on a call of shots fired on the 1400 block of North Oak Street, near the Napa County Fairgrounds.

Carrillo, 26, was face down on the sidewalk, with two empty brass shell casings and an unspent shell cartridge nearby.

Calistoga Police soon learned that Carrillo had been dating Uribe’s ex-girlfriend, and court records show that Uribe had been threatening Carrillo and sending text messages stating “Watch yourself,” and “Here comes the gunpowder.”

Carrillo’s girlfriend told investigators that she had dated Uribe for eight years and they had a 7-year-old child together, but that they had broken off their relationship on Valentine’s Day 2009.

She began dating Carrillo in April.

Carrillo felt that he was being followed and watched by Uribe, according to records.

On June 28, Carrillo’s girlfriend said she drove from Napa to Calistoga to meet Carrillo outside his home around 10 p.m. Carrillo got into the passenger’s side of her car. The two were talking while parked on the street.

Around 1 a.m., she said she saw Uribe appear outside the passenger’s side of her vehicle with a rifle in his hand. She screamed “No, Rudy” over and over again, according to the criminal complaint.

The report states Uribe fired two shots through the window, hitting Carrillo. Uribe then pulled Carillo out of the car, yelled at his ex-girlfriend to leave the area and ran into the nearby apartment complex.

Down south

The next sequence of events resulted in other charges against Uribe.

After the shooting, Carrillo’s girlfriend drove away from the scene and noticed that Uribe was following, according to the report.

Uribe called her on his cell phone and ordered her to drive to a remote part of Santa Rosa.

She left her silver BMW there when Uribe ordered her to get in his car. The two drove back to Napa.

During the drive, Uribe grilled her on her relationship with Carrillo and struck her in the face and head when he felt she was lying, she told investigators.

At the woman’s home, Uribe “requested” that she have sex with him, and she complied out of fear of her life, court records show.

Uribe then warned her not to talk to police and left Napa.

The manhunt for Uribe involved Calistoga Police, the Napa County Sheriff’s Office, the Federal Bureau of Investigation and, ultimately, the Los Angeles Police Department.

On July 8, more than a week after the shooting, Uribe was arrested without incident at the home of a relative in Compton.

Calistoga police left for Southern California the next day to retrieve him and place him in Napa County jail, where he is being held without bail and awaits his next court appearance.

" The world would have been made safer, if he was put away for life after evidence showed he was affilated with a dangerous gang. "

" Is it too much to ask for that this low life, career criminal be put away for good this time?? Idk what I am thinking cuz then that would be considered cruel and unusual by all you liberals out there that believe that rehabilitation is actually possible. "

Ok all of you haters start with the thread that I am a racist.

Please EVERY other country will deport you the second they find that you are in their country illegally. "

" The girlfriend sounds like a suspect to me, she drove off and left her boyfriends body and dumped her car in Santa Rosa?! She could of called 911! How can someone make you drive when you supposively drove off while the "suspect " was on foot?!! She could of gotten away or ran to the victims townhouse to tell family and call police. There are four routes to get out of Calistoga . They say they saw a man run through a complex, there was her free time. She might be a suspect...Then goes home with him and has sex. There are alot of holes in her story. "

" Wow! Nice girlfriend... She won the best girlfriend of the year award!! She had tons of time to drive to Santa Rosa, leave her car and didn't have time to call the police?I mean the police station in Calistoga is only 4 blocks away from where it all happened...plus let's remember Uribe was "running" she was driiving her silver BMW! Why didn't she go when she saw Uribe by the window? This all sounds to me way too perfect! (very nicely planned out!) "
