" The location should quiet some of those who always complain that tourists are never targeted. The Sept. drunk driving report should show some new cities. Good job CHP. "

" This article leads one to beleive it was 7 DUI arrests. The last checkpoint reported listed ZERO DUI arrests, but other arrests for driving w/o license and other charges. NVR, Please add the facts. "

" Wait - so 7 arrests, but not DUI? Arrested for not having a license? "

" raybo - Saturday night is not 2:30 p.m. in the afternoon between Yountville and St. Helena. The tourists are tucked safely in their hotel bed by the time this check point went up. Furthermore, the article doesn't say a single DUI arrest was made. All 7 arrests could be for warrants unrelated to drunk driving. "

" Wow. Good job, not-a-tourist! Somehow I doubt your story, though. If the check point was south of Yountville, you would have already passed the Yountville exit, no? Rarely, if ever, do they set up check points where there's a way for oncoming traffic to avoid them. "

" yeah yeah yeah!!! More law breakers, who thought the law didn't effect them, went to jail!!! Reality checks rule!!! "

realitybites wrote on Oct 1, 2009 3:21 PM:

" Yeah, more Napa County residents got busted for victimless crimes on my tax dollar. Funny, I still see people with cell phones stuck in their ears, texting, changing lanes without signals, rolling through red lights - guess there isn't any money to enforce those laws, or it just isn't news worthy. I still haven't seen a DUI checkpoint where the wineries are during a weekend afternoon. Another example of selective enforcement, targeting locals. Tourists generally don't drive home on Saturday night - oh, but we love the drunk driver tourist - I forgot. "

" not-a-tourist: Come here and say that to my face.

My brother, 21 years young, is in his 4th month of rehabilitation after a month and a half in critical care because a drunk motorcyclist in Sonoma decided he needed get back on his motorcycle after drinking at a bar. Yes, the motorcyclist was over the legal limit. We have no idea if my brother will ever speak, walk, play his drums, or even be able to eat normally ever again.

Your actions have consequences. The only offense my brother committed was being in the wrong place at the wrong time. Think about whose lives you are taking into your hands when you decide to get behind the wheel after drinking. "

" Where's the data? Ususally we'll get # of cars stopped, # of DUI arrests, # of cars impounded, # of cars driven illegally (no insurance, no registration), # of drivers driving without a license, etc. What gives? "

" Percussion Queen7- This is very sad. I work in a Rehab facility, and though my pt population is geriatric, I want to help any way I can because this could happen to any one of us. I wish I could help your brother. Not a Tourist- ARE you Kidding me?? How rude and a few other choice of words. Why would u even say that. Clearing thinking of yourself only because you could take away or hurt somebodys kids, mother, father and so on, life isnt just about you! as for PD- Thanks! "

" dsty20, Yes. "

" The story from Percussion Queen7 is exactly why these check points are important.

Comments from realitybites are baseless and don't take into consideration the face that those who drive impaired, from alcohol and/or drugs, are like a loaded gun to every other driver's head just waiting to go off.

I don't want me or my kids to ever be in that position. "
