On Kohl’s opening day, its personnel thwarted a suspected shoplifter, who was arrested.

At 1:53 p.m., Napa Police Officers responded to the store on the 1100 block of First Street when it reported it had a shoplifter in custody.
A loss prevention officer confronted Mecole Tidwell, 29, about taking a pair of shoes from the store without paying for them, police said.

Tidwell agreed to return to the store, where the officer discovered she also had some stolen clothing items in her purse.
Tidwell was booked on suspicion of burglary at the Napa County Department of Corrections.

" Brilliant! There were security guards visible at the store and each entrance had several employees standing there greeting customers, yet someone thought they could walk out with merchandise. Now Miss Tidwell gets the dubious honor of being Napa Kohl's first, but certainly not last, shoplifter. "

" I really don't believe this person was the first shoplifter. She was just the first shoplifter that was caught.

Maybe I'm wrong. But I gotta believe that if shoplifters were never successful, there wouldn't be so many. "

" Deja vu! Just like Mervyn's and the shop lifters it had. What can you expect Kohl's is a more expensive version of Mervyn's. "

The fourth amendment applies to the government. Private security does not have to follow the same rules as our law enforcement officers. "

" It already looks like it's not going to be as easy as it was at Mervyns. Good job Kohls!! I hope this sends a message to the rest of the would-be thieves. "

I said "...will try...", NOT "...will...".

Thanks for pointing out the fourth amendment -- many (especially politicians and their lawyers) have forgotten we still have a Constitution and amendments. (At least so far.) "

" Kohls is not more expensive than Mervyn's, and if you cant afford it then I feel sorry for you "wowquebonita." I love Kohls and I am very happy that it came to Napa. Its not as good as the one in Vallejo, but its good enough. Their prices are unbeatable and they offer a lot of good brands that Mervyns never carried.

WELCOME TO NAPA KOHLS!!! I am glad you are here. Yeee! "
