A Napa man was arrested on suspicion of having marijuana for sale after a school resource officer smelled the drug coming from a vehicle that had pulled into a school parking lot Friday.

At about 3 p.m., the vehicle pulled in to pick up a young man who was detained at Chamberlain High School, according to the Napa County Sheriff’s Office. The officer walked over to tell them it would be a while and smelled a strong scent of marijuana.
The passenger of the vehicle, Humberto Fraire, 18, was arrested on suspicion of possession of marijuana for sale after a baggie of the drug and a scale were found.

" Just what is a "school resource officer" and what is one's duties and authority? "

" jfz- a school resource officer is a Napa police officer who works with the schools. They spend time at each school and help with any problems that may occur. they also go to class rooms and talk to the kids about different issues such as drugs and gangs. Its a really great program! "

" If you read the story the person who was arrested is not a student at the school. he was there to pick someone up. I still think that having the officers at school is a great program. it allows the students to see and talk to officers and to maybe give a few students a role model something they may not have at home. It also allows the officers to get to know the kids and to even at times get information to help stop a fight, or if someone does have drugs on them. just like with any program there are those that fall through the cracks but if it helps stop one fight, gets one drug dealer/ user off of school grounds then its worth it. Maybe the register can do a story on some of the officers who are involved in the program so that those that dont know about the officers being on campus can learn about the program and about the officers them selves.
