Council tweaks name for new park

The City Council Tuesday chose a new designation for downtown’s newest park — Opera House Plaza at Napa Creek — because council said the name proposed by staff didn’t measure up.

Staff and the city’s Parks and Recreation Commission had proposed calling the park Napa Creek Plaza, but Councilman Pete Mott said that was too generic.
The park runs along the back of the Napa Valley Opera House, a landmark of cultural and historical importance, Mott said. The council agreed with him.

Mott had proposed naming the park Opera House Plaza. At the suggestion of Mayor Jill Techel, “at Napa Creek” was added.
In everyday use, the city’s parks department will likely refer to the site as Opera House Plaza, parks Supt. Dave Perazzo said.

The park, which is under construction, should be available for public use within a month, officials said. The city’s redevelopment agency is sponsoring the park./Register

" What kind of name for a park is that? It's not a hotel or restaurant.. "at Napa creek". Name it after someone that has done something for the good of Napa. What a joke! "

" I’m wondering if teenagers are going to be allowed to ‘hang’ at the park.
We really do need a place for the nice kids in Napa to congregate, peacefully.
Just wondering….. "
