" I have read a number of 'stops due to bicycle violations'. Could the Register print what exactly they are?

Perhaps it will get more bicycle riders to follow the rules and I want to make sure I'm not one of them!! "

" A bicycle needs to follow the same rules of the road as an automobile. You can be stopped for running a red light, a stop sign, going against traffic (pedestrians are to go against traffic, bicycles with the flow of traffic) etc. "

" My guess is the cyclist didn't have a light. Perhaps he was riding on the sidewalk or something else......... "

" Considering the time of the stop I'm going to make the assumption that he was lacking some kind of light or reflectors like most of the people I see riding bikes at night. "

" The front and rear lights may have been a factor... but I am guessing that it had more to do with being 53, on probation, and the cops probably knew him... "

" I'd also guess it's a lighting issue -- a buddy of mine once hit an unlit bike as it crossed in front of him. Dark bike, dark clothing, no lights or reflectors = completely invisible at night. "

" I would guess that about 90% of bicyclists don't folow the rules. That pretty much puts a huge target on your back if you also happen to look like you're up to no good. "

" Homeless ?

I have a cousin that has bicycles that cost more than some cars, and he has more than, uhm, a few.

He says he might be homeless if his wife finds out how much a couple of them cost, though.......but he thinks his Jaguar is more comfortable than the motorhome.

I used to be faster than he was, but if we ever go for a ride again I'm taking my motorcycle.......but his motorcycle is way faster than mine.......but I think my Shelby is still faster than his car.

But he rides his bicycle everywhere. "
