American Canyon Police and Napa County Sheriff’s deputies are searching for a man who allegedly robbed Broadway market in American Canyon at gunpoint Friday morning.
The robbery happened at 10:19 a.m., when the man walked into the market and demanded money from the clerk, Napa County Sheriff’s Capt. Tracey Stuart said.
“He fired a shot into the wall behind the clerk,” Stuart said.
The suspect left the store with an undisclosed amount of money and was last seen running south. No one was injured during the robbery and the clerk was the only other person inside the market, Stuart said.
With the help of K-9 units, officers from both departments searched the streets for the suspect.
Because the man is considered armed and dangerous, officials recommended the schools in the area to be placed on lockdown status while the searched progressed. American Canyon Middle School and Donaldson Way Elementary School were among the schools placed on lockdown but were released from that status before noon Friday, according to John Glaser, Napa Valley Unified School District superintendent. Canyon Oaks and Napa Junction elementary schools were not among the schools placed on lockdown.
Police described the suspect as a Hispanic male, about 20 years old, 5 feet 4 inches tall, wearing a teal-colored hooded jacket or sweatshirt over a black shirt, a black mask, and carrying a teal-colored backpack and a handgun. Stuart said he should be considered armed and dangerous and anyone who sees him should not approach him, but instead call 911.
At press time, police had not located the suspect.
“The suspect either found a safe haven or left the area before we were able to find him,” American Canyon Sgt. Chris Perry said.
Anyone with information about this crime is asked to contact investigators at (707) 253 4591.

-also on Broadway St, also armed robbery and the suspect was similarly aggressive- tied the clerk up- suspect was also a 20+/- male who fled on foot-described only as "light skinned..." The locations were both hit during the day and are merely .06 miles apart- just 11 minutes walking distance from the other.... could be the same guy? "

Thanks, NVR for the prompt report! Poor Broadway Market has had more than it's share of robberies in AmCan. Why is that? "

How could the Police describe "...the suspect as a Hispanic male..."; did he speak Spanish? "

Why? because it's on the frontage here, a very important link to Napa County, if our county leadership and state/ local agencies allow everyone to get that, we may have help for getting the bad guys. "
