The Napa Police Department has received several awards from the California Highway Patrol for its traffic enforcement.

Each year, the CHP conducts a competition called the California Law Enforcement Challenge. It honors agencies with the best traffic safety programs throughout the state.
Retired Community Service Officer Chris Nunley prepared Napa’s entry.

Napa took the award for the best programs for agencies between 71 and 85 officers, as well as the CHP commissioner’s award for having the best program in the state.
Officer Ken Chapman, who runs a bike safety program that educates children at schools about bicycle safety, won an individual award.

“Both Ken Chapman and Chris Nunley deserve a lot of credit for their hard work,” said Sgt. Tom Pieper.

" Well done Ken, this is going to save lives. Any chance of some education/enforcement for the hundreds of adult riders on our roadways nowadays?
They are under the mistaken impression that highway rules do not apply to them. "

" Traffic enforcement... I could be wrong, but that sounds like tickets to me.

You mean the NPD won an award from the CHP for writing the most tickets?

If it's about safety then why isn't it called the California Law Enforcement SAFETY Challenge? "

" I am glad to read something positive about a police department in a news paper. I have always felt that Police Departments have the worse community relations divisions, in that, they rarely publicize the great and wonderful things they do for their respective communities. Napa PD should be very proud! And the law abiding citizens of Napa should be proud to have these officers working in their community. "

" Great job! Congratulations! Now please enforce the cell phone law with all the motor officers riding up between cars and nailing these dangerous people. The texters and dialers and blabbers are everywhere and they have no more clue about what's going on in traffic than a drunk driver. "

" I believe it does mean most tickets... How about, most made up reasons to stop you awards? Oh, and for the cell phone law.... I see Napas "finest" talking on cell phones themselves, while driving..
"Do as we say, not as we do". "
