Two years ago Sara Chappellet took the NxLevel Business Training, a specialty program through the Small Business Development Center.

She wanted to refine and refresh her existing business plan for her business, Heaven and Earth in St. Helena. She used the NxLevel training to plan and prepare for selling her beauty business.

It took awhile, and now Sara has realized her vision!

She sold her business to Joyce and Bill Hoshall and the new business is called Hoshall’s Salon St. Helena-Heaven and Earth.

Sara crafted a win/win agreement with new owner, Bill Hoshall, AKA “Hosh” who just happens to also be a “legendary hairdresser.”

Sara is learning hair styling in the same salon she sold AND she’s an apprentice with the new owner.

Sara reports she is working where people know her and her hair styling career is growing quickly. Plus she has the incredible opportunity to learn from “the most amazing hairstylists,” including Shirley Ricketts, a “well renowned/revered” hairdresser from San Francisco and London, England. Sara says her new career is “more simple and very fulfilling.”

The other half of win/win

Now an employee at Hoshall’s Salon St. Helena-Heaven and Earth, Sara still does much of the ordering, inventory management, marketing, and the website, in addition to her hair styling apprenticeship. She is still doing tasks she excelled at as the owner, but without the stress of ownership.

Her social media and product knowledge skills reward all parties, including the consumer.

Sara finished yoga teacher training at Ekam in Napa when she was finalizing the sale of her business. She parlayed her skills and talents, and her business plan into a whole new career: hair styling and teaching yoga.

“It just unfolded beautifully and perfectly,” reports Sara. “One month I was a business owner and the next month I was an apprentice hairdresser and yoga teacher!”

Yoga classes are held at 360 Health and Wellness, 119 Hunt St., Mondays and Tuesdays in St. Helena and may be booked at mindbody.com.

Interesting side note: Sara has been through a few incarnations at the same business/same location. She first worked for the original owner 15 years ago before Heaven and Earth. She then bought the business and was owner for 7 ½ years of Heaven and Earth. Now she is an employee again, and after completing her apprenticeship, she hopes to rent a hair styling station there.
