The American Canyon Chamber of Commerce presented the DoubleTree Hotel on Friday with the 2017 Business of the Year award at its 24th annual board installation and awards dinner.

The honor was among several awards handed out at the Jan. 26 event, which the DoubleTree hosted.

Business of the Year recognizes an American Canyon enterprise that “demonstrates excellence and contributes to the overall health of the community,” according to a Chamber of Commerce press release.

“The DoubleTree Hotel is a trailblazer in linking American Canyon with the Napa Valley experience,” said Mandy Le, CEO and president of the American Canyon Chamber of Commerce.

Le cited the hotel’s support of the American Canyon Welcome Center, which the Chamber runs, as reason for honoring it.

The DoubleTree “works closely with the Chamber to ensure American Canyon guests have a truly memorable experience,” said Le. “The hotel’s recent outdoor patio renovation has created a beautiful and unique dining opportunity for locals and tourists alike with a Friday Night Concert series that runs throughout the summer.”

The event also featured the awarding of honors to local individuals.

Sgt. Angela Morrow of the U.S. Army Career Center was presented with Member of the Year for her “staunch support” of the community.

“She is a great example of using Chamber resources to further the Army Career Centers goals,” said Le. “Most recently, she took the lead in hosting our November Mixer at the Army Career Center in hopes of connecting the business community to the work the career center was doing.”

Chamber Ambassador of the Year was awarded to Chelle Castagnola-Wegner for her volunteer work at the Chamber, including helping put on its regular and special events.

“Chelle’s energy in engaging and recruiting new ambassadors has been tremendous,” said Le.

The evening’s program began with the swearing in of the Chamber’s new board directors.

Riitta DeAnda of Farmers Insurance took over as 2018 chairperson, replacing Arvind Nischal, owner of The UPS Store, who served last year.

The 15-person board welcomed five new members: Jose Barajas of Barry Callebaut, Elizabeth Goff of American Canyon High School, David Griffis of Eagle Vines Golf Club, Kenta Kamohara of Holiday Inn Express and Suites, and Tom Phillips of Recology.

Returning board members include: Becky Peterson of Napa Valley Vintners, Pat Zuniga of Zeco Electric as 2018 chief financial officer, attorney Ralph Andino, Cori Badertscher of Berkshire Hathaway, Millie Binz of Binz & Company, Deborah Castles of McGrath Properties, Kathy Glass of Platypus Tours, Selwa Hamati of Hamati Bookkeeping and Tax Service, and Nischal.

The evening included raffle prizes, such as two 3-day passes to 2018 BottleRock, chocolate bars from American Canyon’s own Barry Callebaut, and a $75 Spa Gaia gift certificate.

The Napa Valley Vintners, Mezzetta and PG&E sponsored the event.
