Pacific Gas and Electric Co. announced last week that its employees and retirees have raised more than $200,000 in the North Bay/North Coast region to support nonprofit organizations and schools through its Campaign for the Community initiative.

The six-county region includes Napa, Humboldt, Lake, Marin, Mendocino and Sonoma. The total raised by North Bay employees this year was $220,142.

Companywide, the utility raised more than $6.5 million, according to a statement, a record exceeding last year’s total by more than a half-million dollars.

“I’m grateful for how our employees and retirees stepped up in unprecedented fashion this year to support the communities where they live and work,” Tony Earley, chairman, CEO and president, said in a statement. “All of us at PG&E want nothing more than for our communities to be healthy, vibrant places, and I’m proud of how Campaign for the Community helps make that possible.”

Employees contribute through choosing payroll deductions, one-time donations and through events. This year, nearly 7,600 employees made contributions, the company said.

PG&E also contributes matching grants totaling about $2 million to schools and qualifying organizations throughout Northern and Central California.
