Mumm Napa Winery picked the first grapes of Harvest 2016 on July 28 at the Green Island Vineyard beginning at just before 6 a.m. Winemaker Ludovic Dervin delivered a speech talking about the quality of this year's harvest.

The winery received 20.4 tons of pinot meunier that will be used for sparkling wine. The last grapes were picked at 9 a.m. Green Island Vineyards has been selling to Mumm Napa since 1998 and is partially owned by Will Nord, and managed by his daughter Julie Nord. The Nord family has been involved in the Napa Valley wine industry since the 1960s.

“Today is the day we celebrate as the rite of passage between grapegrowers and winemakers,” Dervin said. “It is the end of a growing cycle in our vineyards and the beginning of a new one in our cellars.”
