The effort to keep their family business at the Franz Valley School Road location, where it has been for more than 50 years, is in progress, said Kelly Blakeley of Blakeley Construction, but they need help spreading the word and collecting signatures.
The Blakeley family business was ordered to quit operating its construction business at its family-owned property where family members also live, and are now trying to collect enough Napa County voter signatures to be able to put the matter to voters in a measure that would appear on the June 2018 ballot. The measure would allow their business to continue to operate as it has in the same location.
Blakeley said some of the volunteers that are working on behalf of the family and business are using social media to spread the word about how voters can sign the petition.
The measure would allow “certain grading and paving businesses, including offices, equipment storage and repair and materials” in agricultural zones “if the business has been operating in the same location since July 1, 1968 or earlier.”
They need to collect 3,400 signatures of registered Napa County voters to be able to put the measure on the June 2018 ballot, but they “are shooting for more than that” to be on the safe side, she said.
