A teenager suffered major injuries Friday in a solo crash reported at about 11 p.m. on the Silverado Trail near Calistoga, according to the California Highway Patrol.
Christopher Gomez, 18, of Angwin, was driving a blue 1990 Isuzu Impulse when, for undetermined reasons, he ran off the roadway and crashed into a tree near Pickett Road, CHP Sgt. Gilberto Jose said.
Gomez, who may have fallen asleep at the wheel, was transported by ground ambulance to Queen of the Valley Medical Center, Jose said. The teenager suffered major injuries, including a broken right leg and internal trauma, according to the CHP.
A Queen of the Valley Medical Center representative said at about 11:30 a.m. Saturday that Gomez was in stable condition in the intensive care unit.
According to the CHP, alcohol is not suspected to have been a factor in the crash.
