Democrats of Napa Valley, the local Democratic club, is beginning a voter registration drive for the 2018 election cycle, beginning at the Women's Anniversary March Napa Valley, this Saturday, Jan. 20.
The slogan of the Napa march is “First We March, Then We Vote/Primero Marchandos, Luego Votamos.” Napa County has a reasonably high rate of registration for eligible voters, and a nearly 80 percent turnout in the last presidential election.
However, participation usually flags in the midterm elections. We want to increase the pool of eligible registered voters so that doesn't happen.
There will be an opportunity for future voters to register at the rally at the Napa Valley Expo, after the march.
The Women's March 2017 provided a focus for activists, and so had the actions of the current administration. This will be more than a one-day effort. We have some very spirited community volunteers who are going to work right up until election day 2018.
