Manuel Leyva Padilla died in American Canyon Nov. 3, 2014, at the age of 72.
He died from complications with chronic liver disease. In the community, Manuel was a devoted youth counselor who sought to share his experiences in an effort and gang violence. Both the Napa Peace Table and Mahatma Ghandi’s grandson — Arun — have recognized his efforts to establish a peaceable community.
Manuel was a father and husband who cared deeply for his family, often taking on the grueling demands of a day laborer to provide for them.
Born into an immigrant family in 1941, Manuel was among the first generation born in the U.S.
Manuel is remembered by his family as difficult and compassionate.
He is survived by his wife, Cheri, and his four children: Elisa, Mario, Esperanza and Vincent.
