Authentic entertainment! That is what the Calistoga Theatre Company is currently providing right here in St. Helena. I went to see Black Tie at the Presbyterian Church last Saturday night and had a wonderful evening.
This play provides thoughtful and charming entertainment suitable for the whole family. That being said I think Baby Boomers and up will most appreciate the theme. There are chuckles throughout as well as some hardy laugh-out-loud moments and a welcomed happy ending.
In an age of major films using ever more fantastical computer generated images one wonders how a small neighborhood theater company can compete. Well, they can’t. Nor, I believe, do they want to. What they are offering is a troupe of lovely actors who commit hours upon hours of their lives preparing so they can make themselves vulnerable to the general public in an effort to please.
The production wasn’t perfect, but it was genuinely intelligent, amusing, thought provoking, funny, and I was very pleased. I support local community theater. Maybe you should give them a try.
