American Canyon had two runners qualify for the CIF Sac-Joaquin Section Championships in Division III last Saturday at the subsection meet in Angels Camp.

Needing to be one of the top 10 runners not on qualifying teams, junior Justin Chang advanced in the varsity boys division and Riley Carlos in the Freshman Boys race.

Chang ran a 17:08.9 to finish 36th out of 195 runners overall in the 5K varsity boys race, which had 10 qualifying teams. Rounding out the Wolves – who were 15th as a team – were sophomore Dakota Lim (74th, 18:09.5), juniors Emmanuel De Leon (80th, 18:15.3) and Wilder Mazariegos (18:42.8), senior Joshua Logan (18:59.6), junior Jeremy Lim (19:20.1) and sophomore Heriberto Zavala (19:26.2).

Carlos was American Canyon’s only runner in the 2-mile freshman boys race and qualified ninth individually, placing 18th out of 71 runners in 13:12.0.

American Canyon’s three runners in the Division III varsity girls race were led by senior Rebecca Richards, who was 78th out of 134 runners in 22:19.5. She needed to run two minutes faster to get last individual qualifier spot, which went to the 41st-place finisher. Also running were junior teammates Isabella Richards (94th, 23:15.2) and Karla Aldana (27:21.3).

The Wolves also had three of the 116 runners in the Frosh-Soph Girls race – sophomore Qwencee Stewart (66th, 17:44.5), freshman Jade Alexander (18:47.7) and Jazmin Barrientos (21:10.6).

American Canyon was 11th as a team in the Division III Sophomore Boys race, but only six squads advanced.
