The Jarvis Conservatory in Napa will present another evening of singing with It's a Grand Night for Singers on Saturday, Oct. 7 at 7 p.m. This month's concert features six outstanding singers from the greater San Francisco Bay Area: Senen Bagos, Daniella Caveney, Matthew Gracy, Morgan Harrington, Larissa Lorenz and Michael Strelo Smith.
They will sing arias from grand opera -- Gluck, Wagner, Grieg, Ponchielli, Puccini -- as well as much-loved songs from American musical theatre -- "Beauty and the Beast" and "The Secret Garden" -- and arias from contemporary lyric opera by Kirke Mechem and Ned Rorem.
Because the series' music director Richard B. Evans will be in Washington, D.C. for the East Coast premiere of his Oratorio "Ireland's Poet-Patriots" in the Washington National Cathedral, the program on Oct. 7 will be hosted by Christa Durand. The pianist for the evening will be John Pavik, who has recently moved to the Bay Area from Troy, Michigan near Detroit.
The program will also feature a "first" -- a contemporary art song by Philipino-American actress-opera singer-composer Kailan Kaya, sung in Tagalog by tenor Senen Bagos.
It's a Grand Night for Singers continues the first Saturday of every month at 7 p.m. at the Jarvis Conservatory at 1711 Main St. Tickets are $20 and available at the box office beginning at 6 p.m., with doors opening for general seating at 6:30 p.m.
