The Jarvis Conservatory Foreign Film presents "Marina" in French and Italian with English subtitles, on Friday, Dec. 8, at 7 p.m. and Saturday, Dec. 9 at 1 p.m. Tickets are $10.
Directed by Academy Award nominee Stijn Coninx, Marina" is set in Italy in 1948, where 10-year-old Rocco is growing up in a gorgeous mountain hamlet in Calabria, until his father Salvatore decides to seek a better future for his family in the gray mining landscapes of Limburg, where icy winters, a foreign language and culture all put a damper on the Rocco's happiness.
"Marina" is the true story of Rocco Granata, an Italian coal miner's son who followed his passion for music against his father's wishes and social barriers.
