The Napa Valley Jazz Society kicks off its 2018 season with a trio led by bassist, singer and composer Katie Thiroux. Joining Thiroux at Silo’s in Napa, Sunday, Jan. 28 at 4 p.m., will be Justin Kauflin on piano and Matt Witek on drums.
A recent favorite of jazz festivals and clubs around the world, Thiroux brings the inspiration of the likes of Ray Brown and Ella Fitzgerald to her jazz performances. Her recent performances include Blue Note and Birdland in New York, the San Jose Summer Jazz Fest, Summer NAMM in Nashville, and the Juneau Jazz and Classics Festival.
In May 2017, Thiroux paid tribute to Ella Fitzgerald at the Grammy Museum at LA Live as a featured performer and musical director at the request of the GRAMMY Foundation. She spent June through August in Dubai at the invitation of Quincy Jones, in a two-month residency as a featured artist at his new venue Q’s Bar at the Palazzo Versace.
Napa Valley Jazz Society producer Bill Hart said, “If you need any more reasons to join us, consider these quotes from jazz critics on the premier jazz website All About Jazz: ‘flat out phenomenal; Thiroux’s bass playing is superlative…her soloing summons the spirit of Ray Brown.’
