Bobby Dee Kennedy On February 5, 2018, Bob left this life to be with his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, to whom he had committed his life 72 years before. Bob was born in Brownwood, TX, to Merite Davis and Mary Katherine Hayes Kennedy, on April 2, 1935, where he also grew up, attending Coggin Ward elementary school and Brownwood High School, graduating in 1953. From 1954—58, Bob served as a Hospital Corpsman in the U.S. Navy, in San Diego, CA, Oakland, CA and Honolulu, HI. While in Oakland, Bob met his wife, Joyce Nelson, at Lakeside Baptist Church. They were married December 28, 1956 and became parents of three children.
After Bob was discharged from the Navy, he pursued his B.A. degree at Oakland City College, Texas Western (UTEP), graduating from San Francisco State (CSUSF) in 1962. He continued his education at CSU-Hayward and CSU-Sonoma, earning his Teaching Credential.
Bob taught school a total of 3 years in El Paso, TX, and 31 years in Napa CA, at Alta Heights, Irene Snow, Salvador Elementary Schools, and Redwood Middle School. During his years in Napa, he also was a member of Grace Baptist Church, serving as a Sunday School teacher, Deacon and Elder.
In retirement, Bob and Joyce moved to Cool,CA, where they attended Cool Community Church. Through his life, Bob enjoyed playing tennis & golf, and was a great sports fan, especially football, baseball and golf. He really loved going to see his children’s and grandchildren’s games and events. He loved to travel, especially taking trips to his beloved Texas and to Hawaii as often as possible.
Bob was preceded in death by his parents. He is survived by his wife, Joyce, daughter, Karen, sons, Michael (Lynda) and Jeffrey (Janie), grandchildren, Andrea Horstkotte (Daniel), Alicia Hamilton (Wayne), Caleb (Hadley), Benjamin, Philip, Jesse (Amanda), Derek and Dane, his eight great grandchildren, sister, Mary Carlson (Cliff), also Steven Butler, Sekou Toure and his beloved cousins.
Interment will be at The Sacramento Valley National Cemetery, Dixon, CA. A Memorial Service to celebrate Bob’s life will be held at 1:00pm on Saturday, February 17, 2018 at Cool Community Church, 863 Cave Valley Road, Cool, CA, 95614.
