December 19, 2017 Napa, California; Doris Jean Roll was called home to the loving arms of the Lord following a heroic battle with cancer. An unwavering member of her community, Doris served as a volunteer for Community Projects after her retirement from California EDD. She was a faithful follower of God at St. Apollinaris Catholic Church, loved playing Mahjong with her friends, enjoyed plays at the local college, and occasionally treated herself to a movie. She could also be spotted on one of her two-mile walks around the neighborhood.
Born Doris Jean Patrick to Bill and Irene Patrick January 8, 1935 on the family farm in Minnesota, she attended Villard school for 12 years graduating with the class of 1952. She played clarinet in the band and was a cheer leader for the basketball team. Doris relocated to California in 1953 and shortly thereafter met her husband to be, Jim Roll.
Following retirement, Doris and Jim relocated to Napa, CA where they spent many happy years until Jim’s passing 2013.
Doris enjoyed spending time with family, dabbled in porcelain painting and meticulously cared for her home and flower beds. Doris’s strong work ethic and moral fortitude was an inspiration for all who knew her. She was a loving wife and mother who will be dearly missed.
Preceded in death by her husband of nearly 60 years, Doris leaves two sons (Rick and wife Carol and Patrick and wife Janie), and a daughter Michelle and husband Bailey, along with grand and great grandchildren. She also leaves a brother and two sisters with another brother having passed in 1999.
A memorial mass will be held on Friday March 9, 2018 at St. Apollinaris Church in Napa at 11am with a reception to follow in the church hall. She will be laid to rest in the Sacramento Valley National Cemetery in Dixon, Ca, next to her husband, at 2:30pm following the mass and reception. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Community Projects of Napa, or The Salvation Army. Memories and notes of sympathy may be shared at claffeyandrota.com.
