Resident of Napa, CA
On the afternoon of August 5th, 2017, Eileen passed away surrounded by her loved ones in the Vacaville Medical Center. She was 56 years old.
Eileen was born on February 13th, 1961 in Cottonwood, Idaho. Her family moved to Orland when she was 1 where she grew up.
She attended Orland High School, where she was a majorette, which included twirling a flaming baton at the local football games during half-time. This skill and love for baton-twirling persisted for the rest of her life. Eileen graduated class valedictorian in 1979, then attended Chico State, where she got her bachelor's degree in Psychology; graduating summa cum laude in 1984.
She went on to attend the University of the Pacific to obtain her Master's Degree in Speech-Language Pathology, and then Sonoma State and San Jose State, where she received her teaching credentials.
Eileen taught Deaf students at McGrath school in Napa State Hospital. When McGrath closed, she began working in the Juvenile Court & Community Schools where she taught in many of the programs, including Chamberlain High School, the Wolfe Center, Independent Studies, and finally Juvenile Hall, where she had taught for the last 12 years. In 2015, she became a certified mindfulness teacher. Eileen was pursuing her doctorate in Educational Leadership where she was a top student and a part of the International Honor Society in Education. She had begun formulating research plans that would contribute to the improvement of the juvenile justice system.
Eileen was greatly cherished by all of her students. She was an empowering, loving, and inspiring teacher that changed many student's lives; guiding them with mindfulness education and providing unwavering support and encouragement. Eileen believed in all of her students with a steadfastness that never crumbled. She always wanted the best for them and went out of her way to ensure everyone succeeded. Her kind spirit and compassion has been remembered by countless students that have expressed their gratitude.
Eileen had a wonderful quick-witted sense of humor and an enthusiastic demeanor that heartened and supported everyone who crossed her path. She had a great love for all of her friends and always looked forward to seeing them. A longtime group of friends had a tradition to go on adventures or celebrate at someone's house whenever it was one of their birthdays. They loved to visit the Grace Cathedral in San Francisco to walk the labyrinth together. Friends and family were Eileen's priorities in life, especially her children.
Eileen loved going on trips with her family, and they frequented places like San Francisco, Lake Tahoe, various campgrounds in northern California, and Disneyland. She loved to go all out with decorations for Christmas and Halloween every year and especially loved Christmas traditions with the family. She shared a tremendous motherly love for the family dogs, Twinkles and Jedi, and her four Compassion International children whom she supported each month.
Eileen always put others first and her happiness was manifested through making others happy. Her light will always be carried and remembered by her loved ones, and her stupendous heart and benevolence will be extremely missed.
