Margaret Anne Shaw’s 88 years filled with love, family, friends and laughter came to a peaceful end on January 17, 2018 surrounded by family. Margaret was the youngest child of five children born to William and Mary Martin of Oakland, California. She grew up in Oakland and attended St. Augustine’s Catholic School and then onto Holy Names High School and College. During her high school years she met her husband, Roy in the neighborhood while he was working on his car. They were married on February 14,1948 and resided in the Oakland area. During their marriage they had five children. Margaret and Roy relocated to Rutherford, California to live with Roy’s father on his ranch. After a few years of living in Rutherford they moved just north of St. Helena and Roy started his plumbing business in Calistoga. Margaret worked at Queen of the Valley Hospital, for a local doctor and her last employment was at the Veteran’s Home Post Office where she retired at age 72. Both Margaret and Roy were very involved in the Catholic Church in St. Helena, Native Sons, Italian Catholic Federation and various organizations in the community. They were married for 66 blissful years.
Margaret was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Roy who passed away in 2013. Margaret will be deeply missed by her five adult children David (Suzan) Shaw, Stephen Shaw, Claudia Shaw Weger (Ken), Rosemary Opatz, and Timothy Shaw (Jeanette); her six grandchildren- Angela, Elizabeth, Curtis, Matthew, Joshua, and Katie; her six great grandchildren—Emma, Seth, Haeley, Wyatt, Caelum and Madelyn and her dear friend Russell Brown. Her family is greatly appreciative of the loving care she received from her caregiver of many years, Rejieli (Rachel) Temo.
