Marilyn Mays, 85, passed away November 29, 2017 after a brief illness. She was born in 1932 to Fred and Hazel Richter in eastern South Dakota. In high school, Marilyn was a cheerleader and class valedictorian. In 1952, she met a handsome former Marine, Edward, who was visiting relatives in the area. Three weeks later, they were married and moved to California. Marilyn enjoyed her careers as a switchboard operator, homemaker and bank teller. She loved spending time with her family near and far. Marilyn and Edward were active RV travelers in their retirement; they visited every state in the continental US and Canada as well as made trips to Hawaii and Europe. She journaled and scrapbooked their adventures in great detail. Marilyn’s pride and joy were her family, especially her grandchildren. Kindness, thoughtfulness and her cheerful smile were her trademark. Marilyn is survived by her loving husband of 65 years, Edward, sons Galen (Pam), Daren (Laura), five grandchildren, Matthew, Allison, Chad, Connor, Britton and Sister Sharon Miller(Don) and brother Lynn Richter (Lynn), nephew Austin and niece Sierra. A memorial service was held at St. John’s Lutheran Church of Napa, of which she was a member for more than 40 years. In memorial, please consider sharing in Marilyn’s lifelong support of our country’s veterans through a donation to the Wounded Warrior Project (woundedwarriorproject.org).
