Mary Ng Owyeong, passed away on December 27, 2017, in Napa at the age of 96 in the loving presence of her family .
Mary was born in Zhongshan, Guangdong Province on April 15, 1925. She met and married Henry Owyeong in Hong Kong and came to America in 1949 and lived in San Francisco and finally settling in Napa in 1959. Mary along with her husband, Henry owned and operated one of the first Chinese restaurants, the A-1 Café (Circa 1936) on Main Street in the old Napa Opera House, House of Wong’s,Bel Aire Plaza; Hong Kong Restaurant, Vacaville and Wong’s Restaurant on Trancas Street. Mary was the matriarch of their restaurant business and always ensured all her customers were satisfied with Henry’s fine cuisine and service. Mary and Henry retired in 1987 after 40 plus years in the restaurant business.
Mary was a member of St. Apollinaris Catholic Church and St. John’s Catholic Church.
Mary was a wonderful wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother. She was happiest surrounded by her family and friends. She will forever be missed by all of us. May GOD bless her in heaven.
Mary is survived by sons, Mel ( Nancy), Chris (Tere’), daughter, Caroline (Jeff), adored grandmother to Rachael Wixom (Tim) and Courtney Gresik, doting great-grandmother to Cooper , Tanner and Ryder Wixom, McKay and Lyndie Gresik. She was predeceased by her husband Henry Owyeong, her son, Darryl Owyeong and brother Ling Ng of Zhongshan, China.
Private family services were held at Claffey and Rota Funeral Home and entombment at Tulocay cemetery.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Queen of the Valley Hospital Foundation, St. Apollinaris Catholic Church, Justin Siena High School, St. John’s Catholic Church or for those who desire, memorial contributions to the charity of the donor’s choice.
