Angela Payan

1937—2018

Raymond Dominic Canepa passed away peacefully at home with family by his side on January 31st, 2018.

Raymond was born in Oakland, California on May 15th, 1937 to Dave and Helen Canepa. Shortly after the family moved to Napa to live in the country. Raymond often spoke of his special memories of growing up on the farm and how much fun he had climbing trees as a kid, picking walnuts and running around the family property.

Ray attended Lincoln Elementary, and went on to graduate from Napa High School with the class of 1955. After high school, Ray attended Napa Valley College. Ray entered the apprentice program, Plumbers Pipe Fitters Union Local 343 and worked in Plumbing for many years. He retired in 1990 only to begin his encore career as a remodeling contractor often helping family and friends with their many projects. As a master of many trades, Ray also built several homes and nearly all aspects of construction on his own.

Ray is remembered in love by his devoted wife Cece Canepa, sister Deloris Ruiz (Tommy), nephew Ron Ruiz (Jean) and their children Jamie, Kristin, Amber, Ray’s Children Todd Miller, Caroline Larsen (Jay), Mary Canepa, Julie Miller (Lacy), and Steve Miller (Wednesday). Ray is preceded in death by his son Johnny Miller. Raymond had 10 wonderful grandchildren that brought him so much joy: Adam, Jason, Kayla, Andrew, Derrick, Raymond, Selina, Bianca, Maya, Junior, and Angel.

Raymond and Cece loved to entertain, host holidays and spend time with family and friends. Ray enjoyed many trips to Lake Almanor, Lake Berryessa, and anything to do with boats and fishing. He also enjoyed the fellowship of prime rib night with his friends and fellow members at the local Moose Lodge. Ray was a car guy and he loved old cars. He also loved music by Johnny Mathis and Glen Campbell. Ray cared deeply about his family and friends often lending a hand when people needed help with home projects or anything else.

Ray’s smile, sense of humor, love and warmth will be missed. A celebration of life will be held at Tulocay Cemetery, Friday, February 9th at 11 AM. Memorial donations may be directed to Hospice and St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital. Thank you, Angela, and all the Hospice nurses that were there for us.
