She was a wife, companion, best friend and a wonderful mother. Rose was the sort of person who placed the welfare of her family first. She also extended her love and generosity to her many friends, families of students and her students.

Rose was a school teacher at Robert Louis Stevenson School in St. Helena for 31 years. She was a task master but her former students remember her most for her warmth, compassion, caring and her very stylish shoes.

Rose was born in Pittsburg, CA and moved with her family to Novato in Marin County. She graduated from Terra Linda High School in 1966. She earned a BA and a teaching credential from Sonoma State College in 1971. She taught eighth grade at Robert Louis Stevenson School in St. Helena until she retired in 2002.

She was predeceased by her father, Robert ‘Mac’ McMahon in 2002 and her mother Gisela McMahon in 2003. She is survived by her husband of 38 years Mel Varrelman, and her daughter Kaele Anne McMahon-Varrelman.
