Verna Jean May was born in Auburn, California, the youngest of 4 children. She moved to Napa as a teenager and met Cecil Rolls at the Dream Bowl dance hall. Their courtship started a 68-year marriage of fun and unwavering love. They continued to enjoy dancing, both square dance and ballroom for many years.
Verna worked sewing for the former Napa Rough Rider factory before she became a mother to Linda and Ronald. During her years as home-maker, she taught Sunday School at Grace Baptist Church to preschoolers and opened her heart and home to youngsters of different ages. She was an avid traveler and enjoyed going on cruises.
Verna loved young people and taught them not to take life too seriously. She always had fun with her 3 granddaughters (and later 4 great granddaughters). There was never a dull moment for kids when “Grams” was in the room. She continued to enjoy a good laugh and gave her family “a run for their money” until the very end. She passed away peacefully at home. We look forward to a happy reunion with her in Heaven.
