Gagetta completes basic training

Seaman Joseph Robert Gagetta, 21, son of Mick and Lyn Gagetta and brother of Mario and Gianna, completed nine weeks of basic training on May 24, 2013, at U.S. Navy Recruit Training Command at Great Lakes, Ill.

During the nine weeks of training, Gagetta completed an intense program that focused on rigorous physical conditioning, confidence building, teamwork, core values, basic naval orientation, technical training and weapons instruction. His division earned award flags in all four mission areas.  

On May 21, 2013, he completed Battlestations 21 and became a U.S. Sailor. His parents and siblings attended his Pass in Review on May 24 at Midway Hall at U.S. Navy Recruit Training Command at Great Lakes, Ill.

Seaman Gagetta is now stationed at Point Loma in San Diego. After completing A School, he will train for 10 months to be a mine man on a Minesweeper deploying in April 2014 to Bahrain in the Persian Gulf. His duties will include hunting and sweeping for underwater mines.

Gagetta is a 2010 graduate of Napa High School.
