Food Waste Weekend

at Copia

The CIA at Copia in Napa explores the topic of food waste on Dec. 1–3 with programs that propose real-world solutions to fixing food waste problems at home and at work.

The schedule includes:

Friday, Dec. 1:

7 p.m.: No Waste Holiday Party Planning with Dana Gunders and Chef Steven Satterfield. Learn how to cook a zero-waste meal. A reception and book signing follows. $25

Saturday, Dec. 2:

A day of exhibits and activities includes a reading by Jonathan Bloom, author of American Wasteland, an ugly fruit exhibit by @uglyfruitandveg, and screenings of Scraps! the TV show, Expired! a film from Harvard Center for Health Law and Policy Innovation, and Food Waste, a film from The Lexicon of Food. Unless otherwise noted the events are free and open to the public.

1:30 p.m.: Edible Upcycling with ReGrained features chef Philip Saleski/ReGrained turns “spent” grain harvested from craft beer into healthful, delicious, and sustainable food.

5 p.m. A screening of “Wasted!” with reception and panel discussion. The cost is $25. The “zero waste” reception features ReGrained products and cocktails made with Ugly Juice.

The panel includes Satterfield; Chris Hunt, ReFED, Dana Gunders, NRDC and Save The Food; Grant Carlson, Ugly Juice; Dan Kurzrock, founder of ReGrained and Komal Ahmad, CEO of Copia.

Sunday, Dec. 3:

—1:30 p.m.: Family Funday: Lunchbox Magic. Make-ahead tips and ideas on how to repurpose leftovers to create less food waste and more flavor. $15

—2:30 p.m.: Free Chirps samples and demonstration. Chirps creates products made from crickets.

—3:30 p.m.: ‘Just Eat It’ screening. The film delves into the issue of waste from farm, through retail, all the way to the back of their own fridge. Free.

Twelve Days of Christmas at Meadowood

Influential chefs from around the world will cook with chef Christopher Kostow and The Restaurant at Meadowood team during the ninth season of The Twelve Days of Christmas, a charitable celebration Dec. 8 through 23.

This year’s celebration will benefit Saint Helena Preschool for All, Inc., a nonprofit organization providing scholarships for 3- and 4-year-old children. The Restaurant at Meadowood will donate $2,000 in honor of each participating chef, plus 10 percent of every dinner ticket sold.

The visiting chefs are:

— 2. Saturday, Dec. 9: Chef Manish Mehrotra, Indian Accent Dehli, India

— 4. Wednesday, Dec. 13: Chef Jeremy Fox, Los Angeles (opening chef for Ubuntu), in Napa

Acacia House celebrates the holidays

The new Acacia House at Las Alcobas in St. Helena will present a Feast of the Seven Cultures, a week of dinners featuring seven guest chefs who will create one-day-only tasting menus representing differing countries.

Participating chefs include Traci Des Jardins (Mexico, Dec. 18); Pierre Koffman (France, Dec. 19): Abraham Conlon and Adrienne Lo (Portugal, Dec. 20); Paul Kahan (Germany, Dec. 21); Jamie Bissonnette (Spain, Dec. 22); Staffan Terje (Italy, Dec. 23); and Chris Cosentino (California, Dec. 24).
