International winemaker and consultant Paul Hobbs will serve as consulting winemaker for Juanicó Wines in Canelones, Uruguay. Hobbs will work with the Deicas family, who founded the winery in 1979, to improve the portfolio of wines, including the Don Pascual and Pueblo del Sol brands.
“I've long respected the Deicas family for their efforts in elevating (the grape variety) tannat,” Hobbs said. “Together we plan to promote wines of Uruguay while bringing greater exposure to the Deicas family on an international scale.”
This relationship marks Hobbs' first consulting project in Uruguay. Hobbs currently consults for wineries in California, Argentina, Chile, France, Canada and Armenia. In 2012, Hobbs added several wineries to his consulting portfolio, including Anakena (Chile), Sterling Vineyards (Napa Valley), Bodega Benegas (Mendoza), Chalk Hill (Healdsburg) and Chalone Vineyards (Monterey).
Paul Hobbs Wines includes Paul Hobbs Winery and CrossBarn Winery in California, Viña Cobos in Argentina and Paul Hobbs Imports.
