Wine legend celebrates birthday

Peter Mondavi Sr. celebrated his 98th birthday yesterday at the Charles Krug Winery. Mondavi noted that climbing the stairs to his office and drinking a glass of red wine every day has yielded good results. Mondavi was born Nov. 8 in Virginia, Minn. In his nearly 70 years at Charles Krug Winery, he championed cold fermentation and cold sterile filtration among other innovations. He received the Lifetime Achievement Award on Thursday, presented by Jeff Marinelli of Art and Living Magazine. Submitted photo

Not only a lengend, but a super nice person - some 22 plus years ago, when I was a wine & liquor buyer with a large California chain, he came in to do an in person appearance (and bottle signing), and was gracious to all the customers, and to the staff at the store. A real classy act all the way around.

Very nice. Complementi. We had your 08 Merlot in Acadia National Park twice this week, and it was perfect. We'll visit the winery in February to try out the new release, and pet the cat.
