Five homes in Napa Valley will open their doors for the Kitchens in the Vineyards home and garden tour on Saturday, April 25. This self-guided tour runs from 9:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
Each home is styled by designers and florists with springtime table settings. The tour also offers tastings courtesy of Napa Valley chefs and authors.
Signing their books will be Hugh Carpenter (“Mexican Flavors”); Seth Donovan (“The Landscape Reader”); Ken Stanton (“Mount St. Helena and RLS State Park: A History and Guide,” “Great Day Hikes in and around Napa Valley” and “Napa Valley Picnic”); David Schuemann (“99 Bottles of Wine”); Brian Streeter (“The Cakebread Cellars American Harvest Cookbook”); and Stephanie Grohs and Lauren Coodley ( “Frankie’s Journey: The Silk Road to Napa.”)
Participating restaurants include Farmstead at Long Meadow Ranch, Grace’s Table, Hurley’s Restaurant and Bar, Napa General Store, Napa Valley Bistro, Oenotri, The Thomas & Fagiani’s Bar, Winery Chefs, Cakebread Cellars and All Seasons Bistro.
For the first time in tour history, one of the homes will be a repeat from 2001 after a complete renovation by Josh Chandler. Back by popular demand, this St. Helena home offers cozy, rustic charm and statement styling throughout.
Other homes on this year’s tour include:
— A newly constructed, contemporary home with an Asian aesthetic set amid vines and a redwood grove. The design blends clean lines of glass and concrete with organic cedar and stone elements. The front door and dining table are crafted using reclaimed redwood from the property, the former site of Salvador school. The kitchen offers views of the surrounding vineyards and features concrete and steel countertops, and rich walnut flooring.
— The Bird House perched high above the valley floor. This home is acclaimed architect Hugh Newell Jacobsen’s only commissioned work in Northern California, and offers many of his quintessential design components. The kitchen is open to the living space and features travertine marble flooring, Blum cabinets, and a view of the valley.
— The familiar shape of a farmhouse is contrasted against black-stained cedar in a sleek, contemporary home designed entertaining in mind. The home features a pool, outdoor shower, a glass solarium butler’s pantry and wine room, and a separate guest home.
— Reclaimed fir from an old barn was painted, sanded and constructed alongside stone and tin to create a home with a warm, traditional design. The cozy interior offers retro plumbing fixtures, distressed fir floors, and a kitchen with Cararra marble countertops and custom cabinetry. The exterior features a natural putting green, pool, covered patio, solar paneling, and a mix of cypress and citrus trees.
