Alert neighbors helped stop a burglary at a home next door to them Thursday night in American Canyon.

Neighbors called police around 9 p.m. to report the sound of a window being broken in the 100 block of Via Pesaro Drive, according to American Canyon Police Chief Jean Donaldson.

When officers arrived, they spotted two suspects inside and set up a perimeter around the home, he said. The suspects then complied with police orders to come outside, according to Donaldson.

Two 16-year-old boys from Vallejo were taken to Napa County’s juvenile detention center.

No one was home at the time of the attempted burglary, but the house was “ransacked,” Donaldson said.

Donaldson credited the neighbors for calling police and helping to stop the crime in progress.
