Law enforcement’s Nixle alert system helped find a 13-year-old boy with Down syndrome who had became lost after visiting the Oxbow Public Market with his family Thursday afternoon.
The family was visiting from Benicia when the boy somehow became separated from them, Napa police said. Police, coordinating with Napa Sheriff’s deputies, began searching at about 4:30 p.m.
A Nixle alert — a notification service for law enforcement — was sent to local residents, which resulted in calls placing the boy near the downtown area.
A Sheriff’s deputy located the boy at Third and Coombs streets shortly after 5 p.m. At that point, the boy had been missing for about 45 minutes.
He was safely returned to his family.
