Bowing to public complaints, the VINE bus system is restoring the old Browns Valley Route 1 that was shortened with the revamping of the system in December.

Starting Wednesday, Route 1 buses will no longer make the new Larkin Way-Scenic Drive-Austin Way loop, then head back to town.

Instead, they will travel on Browns Valley Road a half-mile farther west than Austin Way to Partrick Road, then loop back toward town as before.

“We were very encouraged by the number of people who wanted to see the portion of the route restored,” Tom Roberts, manager of public transit, said in a news release. “We are hopeful its return will result in more people riding.”

New printed schedules will be released in coming months. In the meantime, the new route and schedule can be seen at

The first of many adjustments to fix all that's wrong with the local VINE route changes made in December.

The next changes should be to get rid of all the giant one-way loops they just put in.
